We had a bit of a rough start to 2014 and a tough few months before that with one thing and another. Initially Chris and I didn’t cope so well together in the face of life throwing things at us but eventually we started communicating better and now it feels as though we are united, a team and ready to face whatever 2014 sends our way – however hard it might be.
We have talked a lot about what we want to raise our children believing – So here are the three essential values we want them to grow up with:
Kindness is the single most important characteristic to me. Being kind and choosing to believe the best in people is harder than it sounds. It’s so easy to let cynicism, anger or hurt influence how you treat people. We will strive to be kind in everything we do and be kind to each other when we don’t quite manage it.
Treating people fairly is so important – this doesn’t always mean to treat them equally because everyone’s needs aren’t the same – but to strive to be fair in everything we do.
Loving people is so important to me. Making all our decisions based on loving people more than money will hopefully help us be kind and fair. We believe that when people start loving money more than people they lose focus on what is important. We strive to see the value in people and put that above possessions and wealth.
So, like all good things in life we will be working hard to live by these values, and impart them to our children, and probably failing frequently – but it’s good to have dreams and ambitions isn’t it?
What a lovely thing to do – and great values. Not easy though to always stick to it, good luck!! Dxx
That’s so true! It’s good to have an aim though 🙂 xx
They sound very well thought through ideals, which somehow connect to one another. I just love the word ‘kindness’, it even sounds nice – something we should all strive for I think.
I completely agree – kindness and love for others is more important than anything else. Good Buddhist principles too which is what I’m focussing on for 2014.
I’m convinced it makes me happier to love other people (its so simple but important to remind myself) x
Your children are beautiful and theres some great values you are teaching them there. You sound like my kinda person ; )
Ah thanks! Just been reading your blog – you too 😉
They’re brilliant family values – I love the last one especially
brilliant family values! I agree with them all, kindness is the most important thing and I so agree with loving people over money!! xx
Thank you very much, I’am really glad that I’m following you. I’m still figuring out. Just wanted to say that you are an awesome blogger, Inspiring and May you inspire more readers essentially perfectly ok. greetings from Gede Prama 🙂
Thank you very much for your kind words
I love the idea of setting out your family values like this. The ‘we are fair’ one is one that I always try hard to implement as I was one of three children and have three children, so know how important it is that everything is seen to be shared fairly.
This is a lovely idea I might have to borrow for our family.
Great values to have and I agree with them all 🙂 xx
It is great to have such great common values.
These are great values. I like your distinction between fairness and equality.
I love your values – and share them too – it’s good to remind ourselves though 🙂
These are great values to live by – particularly being kind which I think probably encompasses the others to some extent.
Yes! I totally agree!
