When a 2 year-old sums it up

Sometimes I have to drag my children along to run errands with me for First Days – I only have 8 hours of childcare a week and these are taken up by visiting families and lots of meetings. I work most evenings and sometimes have to do things whilst the children are around. Yesterday we had to drop lots of bags of baby clothes off to a lady from a local baby group who were sorting them for us, so I took Joni and Wilbur with me. I was feeling bad that it wasn’t a Pinterest Verified toddler activity but life isn’t really like that, right?

So, as we were driving around singing Polly Put The Kettle On (or Joni’s version – Joni Put The Rice On) Wilbur was getting a grumpy and Joni turned to him and said:

“don’t cry Wilbs. We are doing nice things. We are doing First Days Charity thing. We help children who don’t have clothes like us do … And at Christmas we help Father Christmas give toys … they mummy will be happy”

I was speechless.

I really do not know where she got that from. I have never talked directly to her about it – I guess she just listens when I’m talking to other people. How amazing that a two year old can grasp what I’m doing so well. From the mouths of babes. I also thought – maybe they have been stuck in the car and not at home making a paper mâché abacus but you know what? I think they’re still learning, and if they can learn about being kind to strangers then I think that beats colouring in the lines of home made colouring books any day.

Thats just wonderful. Goes to prove what an amazing thing you are doing.
They are learning, from you, how to be a good person – how awesome is that!

She’s a bright one. She’s learning lots of useful stuff about life, and can do the messy paper mache stuff with her childminder.
